Several toppings can be added to nachos, such as jalapeños, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, olives, avocado, shredded lettuce, and bacon; the options are almost endless!

Do you put cheese or meat first on nachos?

It's best to add the meat first. Adding the meat first before topping the nachos with a layer of cheese will keep the meat from drying out in the oven or microwave. 

Is it better to make nachos in oven or microwave?

Microwaving nachos is good if you're in a rush however it does tend to make the nachos slightly soggy. Baking them in the oven on a baking sheet will help to keep them nice and crispy. 

How do you make nachos so they don't get soggy?

Baking nachos in the oven and limiting the number of toppings when cooking will help keep nachos crispy. Also, any wet items such as tomatoes should only be added just right before serving.

Ingredients

Turkey Nachos
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • 1 large Yellow Onion, peeled, diced small 

  • 1 pound Ground Turkey, extra lean

  • 2 cloves Garlic, peeled, minced

  • 1 tablespoon Taco Seasoning

  • 1/2 recipe Refried Beans 

  • 1 (8-ounce) bag Corn Tortilla Chips

  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese, shredded 

  • 2 cups Monterey Jack Cheese, shredded 

  • 1 (15-ounce) can Black Beans, drained, rinsed 

Nacho Toppings
  • 1 large Tomato, diced small 

     

     

     

     

     

  • 1 ripe Avocado, diced small 

  • 1/4 cup Green Onions, thinly sliced 

  • 4 sprigs Cilantro, leaves 

  • 1/2 cup Pickled Jalapeños

  • 4 tablespoons Sour Cream 

  • 2 tablespoons Hot Sauce (optional)

Instructions

Turkey Nachos

Begin by adding the oil to a pan and setting it to medium heat on the stovetop for 1 minute. 

Prepare cooking pan

Add the onions and sauté them for 2 minutes until they turn translucent.

Add the turkey to the pan and brown for 5 minutes, breaking the meat into smaller pieces with a spatula or wooden spoon.

Drain off any excess liquid from the pan before adding garlic and taco seasoning to cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the refried beans into the pan folding them in with the turkey using a spatula.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Add a layer of tortilla chips to a baking sheet, spreading out half the turkey meat onto the layer of tortilla chips followed by half the shredded cheeses and black beans. 

Prepare oven and the tortilla chips

Repeat the steps to create another layer, then place the baking sheet of nachos into the oven and bake for 5-8 minutes until all the cheese is melted.  

Cooking the Nachos

Nacho Toppings: Assemble the nachos by spreading out the tomatoes, avocados, green onions, cilantro, and pickled jalapeños, Drizzle on the sour cream and hot sauce to finish them off. Serve and enjoy.
