The celery adds sweetness, while the garlic cloves and onions add savory touches. As a bonus, this Vegan Cream of Celery Soup contains less sodium than typical soups. That's because we used low-sodium vegetable stock instead of regular vegetable stock. 

We also added fresh lemon juice, a great seasoning substitute for salt. Serve with Vegan Garlic Bread or Keto Seed Crackers.

What can I substitute cream of celery soup with?

You can substitute cream of celery soup with cream of mushroom soup, heavy cream, or cream of chicken soup.

Is cream of celery the same as cream of chicken?

No, it's not. Cream of chicken is made using chicken broth; this gives it a savory flavor. On the other hand, cream of celery is made using celery broth; this gives it a mildly sweet flavor.

What spice goes with celery?

Spices like parsley, bay leaf, rosemary, thyme, oregano and coriander go well with celery.

What tastes good on celery?

Cream cheese, blue cheese, raisins, nuts, peanut butter, and dried cranberries are good for celery.

  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil

  • 1 medium Yellow Onion, diced small

  • 12 stalks Celery, diced small

  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced

  • 4 cups Low-Sodium Vegetable Stock

  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Thyme Leaves

  • 1 Bay Leaf

  • Juice of 1/2 a Lemon

  • 1/3 cup full-fat Coconut Milk

  • Celery leaves for garnish (Optional)


To a large pot over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the onion and celery, sautéing for 10 minutes.

Add the garlic and sauté for one to two minutes.

Add low-sodium vegetable stock, salt, black pepper, dried thyme leaves, and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then let simmer covered for 20 minutes.

Remove the soup from heat and discard the bay leaf.

Stop cooking and remove the bay leaf

Add the lemon juice and coconut milk, then blend the soup using an immersion blender until creamy.
