Although both methods of cooking cabbage are healthy, the nutrients retained in steaming items will be higher than when boiled.

Ingredients

  • 1 head Cabbage - sliced or shredded

  • 1 large Onion - sliced 

  • 3 cloves Garlic - minced

  • 1 teaspoon Ginger - minced

  • 1 Bell pepper - julienne cut

  • 2 large Tomato - julienne cut 

  • 1 medium Carrot - julienne cut

  • 1 teaspoon Thyme - fresh, chopped 

  • ¼ teaspoon Allspice

  • Salt & Black Pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil

Optional Ingredient
  • ½ Scotch Bonnet pepper - seeded & minced

Instructions

Using large deep skillet add the coconut oil and bring to medium-high heat.

Once the oil is hot, add the onion, garlic, ginger, bell pepper, and tomato, then sauté for 3 minutes.

Mix in the cabbage, carrot, thyme, scotch bonnet and allspice and sauté for 3-5 minutes or until the cabbage is cooked but still has some texture and bite.

Turn the heat down to low and cover with a lid for 5 minutes and let the cabbage steam.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste, then remove from the heat and serve warm.
