"Cream of Wheat" is one of those dishes known to stick to your ribs, because it is such a healthy, nourishing, and filling meal. This recipe is easy to follow and will provide you with vegan-friendly options to garnish your warm bowl of Cream of Wheat that anyone can enjoy.

The most popular are raisins and brown sugar, fresh berries drizzled with maple syrup or a fall favorite dried apples with pumpkin spice.

What is Cream of Wheat?

'Cream of Wheat' is the brand name for a porridge made of wheat semolina. Semolina is coarse wheat middlings of purified durum wheat. Sometimes, semolina is also used for other coarse grains in general, such as corn or rice. Therefore, when purchasing semolina to make a Cream of Wheat, check the ingredients listing to ensure it is made with wheat. These wheat granules are an excellent option for a healthy breakfast that warms you up on a cold day. When boiled in water or any non-dairy milk, it becomes a creamy texture and can be flavored sweet or savory.

Ingredients

Creamy Wheat Porridge
  • 3 1/2 cups liquid - Water or Non-Dairy Milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt

  • 1/2 cup Wheat Semolina

Sweet Optional Ingredients
  • Sweeteners such as Brown Sugar, Honey, Maple Syrup or any sugar-free alternative sugar.

  • Any dried fruit, for example, raisins, cranberries or dried apples.

  • Fresh fruits, such as berries

  • Nut Butter - Peanut, Almond or cashew butter

  • Spices - Cinnamon, Nutmeg or Pumpkin Spice

Instructions

Using a saucepan, bring your liquid to a boil on medium to high heat and add salt.

Once the mixture has come to a boil, reduce the heat down to medium to low and slowly add the wheat while stirring using a wooden spoon at the same time for 3-5 minutes.

The porridge will thicken as the wheat absorbs the liquid even after it is removed from the heat. If you prefer a thinner texture to your porridge, add more liquid in a small amount at a time, stirring to incorporate into the mixture thoroughly.

Stir in any of your favorite optional ingredients and portion the Cream of Wheat into warm bowls.
