There's no need to pull out your skillet to make a grilled cheese sandwich. You can make a grilled cheese sandwich in your waffle iron, so there's no need to carefully watch your grilled cheese to ensure it does not burn. To make this waffle iron grilled cheese, we buttered slices of gluten-free bread, then added ham and cheese before cooking the grilled cheese sandwich for 2 minutes until golden brown. Can you use a waffle iron as a sandwich press?

Yes, you can use your waffle iron as a sandwich press. Just be sure to oil or butter the waffle iron or the bread so it does not stick. 

 

Can I Melt cheese in a waffle maker?

Yes, you can melt cheese in a waffle iron. Preheat your iron and place 1-2 slices of cheese onto the waffle iron. Close the lid and press down. Check the cheese every 30 seconds to a minute. Once the cheese melts and is golden brown, could you remove it from your waffle iron?

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, room temperature

     

  • 4 slices of Gluten-Free Bread

     

  • 2 slices Cheddar Cheese   

     

  • 2 slices Ham 

     

  • 2 slices Gruyère Cheese

Instructions

Preheat the waffle iron. 

Pre-heating the waffle maker

Slather each slice of bread on one side with 1/2 tablespoon of butter.

Put 2 slices of bread onto your waffle iron. 

 

Prepare 2 slices of bread in the machine

Add one slice of cheddar cheese to the bread. Top with one piece of ham and one slice of Gruyère cheese.

Set another slice of bread on the cheese, buttered side up.

Close the waffle iron, but do not press it down, or the cheese will ooze out of the sandwich.  Let the sandwich cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.

Remove the grilled cheese from the waffle iron and place it on a plate. Repeat steps 3-6 to make the second grilled cheese sandwich.
