Who doesn't love fluffy, light pink, sweet, and thick strawberry frosting? After all, it is pure strawberry goodness! This Vegan Strawberry Frosting is super easy to make. It is a vegan buttercream and only contains five simple ingredients. You can use this strawberry frosting to frost all your strawberry-themed desserts like strawberry cake or add some strawberry flavor to your vanilla desserts. You will have a delicious bite of smooth, creamy strawberry frosting.

Is strawberry frosting vegan?

In short, it depends. Traditionally strawberry frosting is made with dairy products such as butter, milk, or cream. However, if you make it with vegan butter and dairy-free milk, your strawberry frosting will be vegan.

Does homemade buttercream frosting need to be refrigerated?

Yes and no. If you are using Swiss, Italian, or American buttercream, it does not have to be refrigerated right away. It can last for three days when stored in an airtight container at room temperature. However, if you use German or French buttercream, it must be refrigerated immediately.

How do you thicken vegan frosting?

Sometimes vegan frosting will not turn out as thick and luscious as we want it to, but there is no need to freak out if your vegan frosting is a little loose. Instead, add 1-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar to the frosting and mix thoroughly to combine. Alternatively, you can add a teaspoon of softened vegan butter to the frosting until it thickens up. If the vegan frosting is still not thick enough, continue adding teaspoonfuls of butter and mixing it until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. In contrast, if you make stovetop vegan frosting, you can stir in 1 teaspoon of all-purpose flour and heat it over low heat until the frosting thickens up.

How long does vegan buttercream last in the fridge?

Unfortunately, vegan buttercream will not last forever, no matter how creamy it is. As long as you store your vegan buttercream in an airtight container, it will stay in the fridge for up to a week. Please remove it from the refrigerator when you are ready to use your vegan buttercream. Let the vegan buttercream sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften up to a pipeable consistency.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Strawberries, trimmed, halved

  • 1/3 cup Vegan Butter, room temperature

  • 1 teaspoon Strawberry Extract

  • 3 ½ cups Organic Powdered Sugar

  • 1-2 tablespoons of Coconut Milk (optional)

Instructions

In a blender, add strawberries and blend until puréed. If you do not want strawberry seeds in your frosting, pour the puréed strawberries into a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl. Press the strawberries through the strainer until there are only seeds left. Set the strawberry purée aside.

In a stand mixer, add vegan butter and beat it for one minute. You can also add the vegan butter to a large bowl and beat it with an electric hand mixer.

Mix in the strawberry purée and strawberry extract until it is incorporated. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.

Put a fine-mesh sieve on top of a medium bowl and add the powdered sugar. Sift the powdered sugar into the bowl. Sifting the powdered sugar will reduce clumps giving you a smooth buttercream frosting.

Start adding in the powdered sugar 1/4 cup and mix on low speed until incorporated. The strawberry frosting should be thick, smooth, and creamy. If the strawberry frosting is too thick, add one tablespoon of coconut milk to thin it out. Then, add the second tablespoon of coconut milk only if necessary.

Use your strawberry frosting to frost your cakes or cupcakes. You can also store it in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for 1 month.
