There's nothing as comforting as a warm bowl of Vegan Instant Pot Split Pea Soup when it's super chilly outside. But, unlike traditional split pea soup, this homemade soup is vegan. And we bet it'll be one of the best-split peas soups ever. We added smoked paprika and nutritional yeast for a classic smoky flavor and umami.

And the beauty of this recipe is how easy it is. Add all your ingredients to your Instant Pot, and allow it to cook for 15 minutes. You end up with a soup that tastes like it's been simmering for hours. Serve with vegan crackers or bread.

Can you cook split peas in an Instant Pot?

You sure can. Cooking split peas in an Instant Pot takes less time than cooking them on a stovetop. First, make sure you use one part split peas to three parts liquid (water or broth) and add your favorite spices. Then cook in the Instant Pot for 15 minutes before releasing the pressure. Easy peasy!

Do you wash split peas before making soup?

Yes, you need to wash split peas before making & soaking, or else you may end up with small stones or dirt in your soup.

How do I make split peas less gassy?

Dried split peas contain complex sugars that, once digested, make us gassy. By soaking your dried split peas in water, the gases are released in the water, making the split peas less gassy. Before cooking your split peas, you'll want to soak your split peas in water for 8 to 12 hours, being sure to cover the split peas completely. Then, while your split peas are drinking, rinse and drain them every three hours.

Is split pea soup good for you?

Yes, split pea soup is quite good for you. That's because split peas are rich in plant-based protein and fiber. They're also good sources of magnesium and iron, essential for healthy bones and keeping your energy levels up. Split peas also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. So gobble up that soup!
