Churros have a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior that is simply irresistible. However, churros are deep-fried in oil which can stink up your kitchen. Can You Cook Frozen Churros In An Airfryer?

Yes, you can make churros in the air fryer. Simply place the frozen churros into your air fryer basket and cook them for 8 minutes at 320 °F.

Why Do My Churros Explode?

Most people think the ridges on churros are for decoration. However, these ridges serve an essential purpose. The shelves on churros prevent churros from exploding and help them cook evenly. The ridges on the churro create a broader surface area, allowing the churro to cook evenly. If there were no ridges on the churro, the exterior would cook faster than the interior, creating a hard shell.

When the batter on the inside heats up, steam is made, and pop goes the churro. You should use a 1M for piping churros into the air fryer's basket or hot oil.

Why Are My Churros Falling Apart?

Unfortunately, if your churros are undercooked, they will fall apart as they cool. This is why you should cook them longer. If your churros are turning too dark, especially before the center is cooked, decrease the temperature of the air fryer, oven, or oil.

Ingredients

Churro Dough
  • 1/2 cup Water

  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk

  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, cut into small pieces

  • 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

  • 3 Large Eggs

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

For Coating
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar

  • 1 tablespoon Cinnamon

  • 1/8 teaspoon Salt

For Serving
  • Chocolate Sauce (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the air fryer to 375 °F.

Whisk the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl and set it aside.

To a medium sauce pot, add water, milk, butter, and sugar and place it over medium-high heat. Heat the mixture, frequently stirring until it comes to a boil.

Remove the water milk mixture from the stove and stir in the all-purpose flour using a wooden spoon until it is incorporated.

Return the churro dough to a medium-low flame and heat it for 2 minutes, constantly stirring until the churro dough comes together in a smooth bowl.

Place the churro dough into a large bowl and with an electric hand mixer, beat the churro dough for 2-3 minutes to cool the dough down slightly.

Whisk the eggs and vanilla extract in another small bowl. Gradually add the egg mixture to the churro dough a little at a time. Make sure you scrape the sides of the bowl down to make sure all the ingredients are incorporated.

Place the churro dough into a pastry bag fitted with a 1M tip. Do not overfill the pastry bag or the dough will come out of the top of the pastry bag.

Pipe 3-inch strips of churro dough into the air fryer basket and cut the dough with kitchen scissors.

Cook the churros for 6-8 minutes until they are golden brown.

Remove the churros from the air fryer and dredge them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Make sure you coat each churro completely in the cinnamon sugar.

Place the churros on a wire rack to cool for 5 minutes, then place them onto a serving platter.

Serve the churros with chocolate sauce or Chocolate Tea Recipe if desired.
