Flank steak often gets a bad rep for being tough. But as long as it is sliced across the grain, flank steak is tender and loaded with beefy flavor. This Air Fryer Flank Steak is no different. It is coated with a dry rub and cooked perfectly to medium-rare. Best of all, this keto recipe is served with a chili sauce that takes ordinary blank steak to another level. Make sure you purchase flank steak that is 1-inch in thickness, and you will end up with tender, flavorful air fryer flank steak. 


How long does a flank steak take to cook in air fryer?

Flank steak takes 4-5 minutes to cook in the air fryer. However, if you want a temperature above medium-rare, cook the flank steak for 5-7 minutes per side. 


Should flank steak be marinated?

Marinating flank steak increases its tenderness, so yes, it is a good idea to marinate flank steak, but it is not the only way to tenderize it. You can also tenderize flank steak by pounding it with a meat mallet. 


Is flank steak unhealthy?

Flank steak is very healthy. In fact, flank steak is one of the healthiest cuts of beef. It has fewer calories and more protein than popular steaks like Ribeye. A 100-gram serving of flank steak contains 141 calories, 21.57 grams of which are protein. In contrast, a 100-gram serving of Ribeye steak has 241 calories, 17.51 grams of which are protein.


Is flank steak the same as flat iron steak?

Flank steak is definitely not the same as flat iron steak. They come from different parts of the animal. Flank steak is fabricated from the hindquarter, while flat iron steak is cut from the neck and shoulder of the cow.

Hot Chili Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Unseasoned Rice Vinegar

  • 1/2 cup Water

  • 3 cloves Garlic, grated

  • 1 tablespoon Grated, Ginger

  • 2 tablespoons Tamari

  • 1/4 teaspoon Xanthan Gum

  • 1/4 cup Brown Swerve Sugar-Free Sweetener

  • 2 tablespoons Garlic Chili Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Keto Hot Sauce

Flank Steak
  • 1 pound Flank Steak

  • 1 tablespoon Brown Swerve Sugar-Free Sweetener

  • 1 teaspoon Coarse Salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked Black Pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Dried Parsley

  • 1 teaspoon Paprika


Hot Chili Sauce

Place the unseasoned rice vinegar, water, garlic, ginger, tamari, xanthan gum, swerve, garlic chili sauce, and hot sauce in a small saucepot and whisk to combine. 

Place chili sauce over medium-high heat and cook it for 10-15 minutes. 

Remove chili sauce from the heat and cool completely.

Flank Steak

Remove the flank steak from the fridge, 30 minutes before you intend to cook it. Place the flank steak on the countertop and let it come to room temperature.

Whisk the sugar-free sweetener, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dry mustard powder, parsley, and paprika in a small bowl.

Preheat air fryer to 350 °F.

Tenderize flank steak with a meat mallet on both sides. Add the dry rub and massage it into both sides of the steak. 

Place the flank steak into the air fryer's basket and cook it for 4-5 minutes. 

Flip the steak. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until it is medium-rare or a thermometer registers a temperature of 130 °F when inserted into the steak. 

Remove flank steak. Place the flank steak onto a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes. 

Slice the flank steak across the grain. Serve with hot chili sauce. Pour a glass of beer like own very own healthy Ginger Beer.
