Avocados are one of the most sought items in the produce section of your local grocery store. They're also among the top 10 items on the vegan list of fruit/vegetables to consume regularly. That's because they're high in healthy fats and fiber and are beneficial to the heart & cardiovascular system. So you can't go wrong when it comes to this popular ingredient. At Classic Bakes, there is an avocado toast section with various avocado toast recipes. Not all the variations can be added to the vegan recipe below, but they may inspire you to create the ultimately smashed avocado toast. 

Start with the essential ingredients of your favorite vegan bread, avocado, fresh lime, sea salt & cracked black peppercorns. The toppings for this Vegan Smashed Avocado on Toast are endless and can be enjoyed as a healthy breakfast, snack, light lunch, or even dinner on those nights when you're running short on time but are seeking something healthy for dinner.  

* Tip on picking out the best avocado: Remove the stem when shopping. If the region underneath the branch is bright green, the avocado will be at its prime. If it's brown or has brownish strips, pass on this avocado and keep on looking for the perfect avocado.

  • 2 slices Vegan Bread

  • 1 teaspoon Vegan Butter 

  • 1 Ripe Avocado 

  • 1/2 Fresh Lime, juiced 

  • 2 pinches Sea Salt 

  • Fresh Cracked Black Peppercorns, to taste 


Using a toaster or the oven set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, toast your slices of vegan bread to your preferred doneness.

While your toast is toasting, set up a small bowl & cutting board.

Carefully make a slice in the middle of the avocado until you reach the pit using a chef's knife, turn the avocado around until you've reached the end & twist it to separate the avocado in two. Remove the pit & cut the avocado into small dice by running your knife length & widthwise. Scoop the diced avocado out of the shell & into the bowl. 

Add in the lime juice, sea salt & pepper, and smash the avocado with either an avocado smasher, whisk, fork, or potato masher until the avocado is smooth, with some pieces of avocado left for texture. 

Place your slices of toasted bread onto a plate, smear them with vegan butter & spread the mashed avocado on top. 

Enjoy your smashed avocado on toast as is, or add on your favorite variations of toppings.
